Standalone or linked to In-Tune

Choose the path that fits how you work today. Both use the same Android app and Stripe Tap to Pay — the difference is whether you also use In-Tune to run your business.

Standalone mode

Perfect if you only need in-person card payments — market stalls, mobile trades, pop-up shops, or any business that wants Tap to Pay without a full management platform.

In-Tune mode

For businesses already on In-Tune. Your Stripe Connect account is linked — charges from Payment Terminal reconcile with your existing payments ledger.

Getting started

From download to first payment in minutes

    Download In-Tune Tap

    Download the APK on a compatible Android phone and install it when prompted. Standalone users can start immediately; In-Tune users can also download from Settings after Stripe Connect is set up.

    Choose Standalone or In-Tune

    Standalone walks you through Stripe Connect onboarding inside the app. In-Tune mode signs you in with a short-lived token from Payment Terminal or Settings.

    Enter the amount

    Type a charge, pick from your quick-sale catalogue, or — in In-Tune mode — send the amount from Payment Terminal on the web.

  4. 4

    Customer taps

    Ask them to hold their contactless card or phone near the back of your device. Stripe handles authorisation securely over the internet.

  5. 5

    Receipt and done

    Payment confirmed on screen. Email a receipt if they want one. Payouts follow your normal Stripe Connect schedule.

Requirements and compatibility

Android + NFC

Requires a Tap-to-Pay-compatible Android phone. iOS is not supported in this release.

Internet connection

Active mobile or Wi‑Fi data during the transaction — Terminal authorises in real time.

Stripe Connect

Standalone users create a Connect Express account in-app. In-Tune users connect once in Settings.

Supported countries

Stripe onboarding supports UK, Ireland, US, Canada, Australia, NZ and many EU countries.

Device recovery

Lost your phone? Standalone users can email themselves a reconnect link to move to a new device.

Platform fees that shrink as you grow

The In-Tune Tap app is free. Stripe charges their own card processing fees separately. In-Tune charges a small platform fee on each Tap payment, collected automatically via Stripe Connect — in both Standalone and In-Tune mode.

Your fee is based on rolling 90-day card volume through In-Tune Tap. The more you process, the lower the rate — down to 0.5%. Only contactless Tap payments count toward your tier (not cash or manual entries).

  • Refunds reverse the platform fee proportionally when the original charge included one.

FAQ

Common questions about In-Tune Tap

Is In-Tune Tap available on iPhone?

Not yet. In-Tune Tap currently works on compatible Android devices only. Apple Tap to Pay on iPhone is not available in this app. Check back here or follow us on social media for updates.

Do I need an In-Tune account?

No. Standalone mode lets you take card payments with just the Android app and a Stripe Connect account — ideal if you don’t use In-Tune for scheduling or billing. If you already run your business on In-Tune, use In-Tune mode so charges sync with your payments ledger.

Do I need a card reader?

No separate hardware. Stripe Tap to Pay uses the NFC chip in your Android phone. Download the APK, complete Stripe onboarding, and you’re ready.

How do I install the app?

On your Android phone, tap Download Android APK. Open the downloaded file and allow the install when Android asks. If your browser blocks the download, check your Downloads folder for InTuneTap.apk.

Is sideloading safe?

Yes — you are downloading directly from In-Tune over HTTPS. The APK is signed with our release key. Only install from this page or from your signed-in In-Tune Settings screen. Android may ask you to allow installs from your browser — that is normal for apps not yet on Google Play.

How do I install as a Standalone user?

Download the APK, install it, open the app, tap Standalone, and follow the Stripe Connect setup. No In-Tune website login required.

How do In-Tune users get the app?

After connecting Stripe in In-Tune Settings, a download link appears on the Payment tab. You can also download from this page and sign in via Payment Terminal’s In-Tune Tap button.

What does it cost?

The app is free to download. Stripe charges standard card processing fees on each transaction. In-Tune charges a platform fee on Tap payments — see the platform fee tiers above. Your rate drops automatically as your 90-day Tap volume grows.

How do platform fee tiers work?

We track your contactless Tap card volume over a rolling 90-day window. As you pass each volume threshold, your platform fee decreases — for example from 2.5% down to 0.5% on the standard tier table. Paid In-Tune subscribers start at lower rates. Your current fee and progress toward the next tier are shown in app Settings (Standalone) or on the In-Tune Payment tab.
